Last summer June 19 became a federal holiday. This year it will be celebrated on June 20 - and US banks and stock markets will be closed.
Last year Canada did the same - retribution (Truth & Reconciliation) I believe they call it -- US for the emancipation of the Slaves from Africa:
Juneteenth is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. Juneteenth marks the anniversary of the announcement of General Order No. 3 by Union Army general Gordon Granger on June 19, 1865, proclaiming freedom for enslaved people in Texas New Federal Holiday Honouring First Nations, Inuit and Mtis Survivors Coming September 30, 2021. On June 3, 2021, Bill C-5, An Act to amend the Bills of Exchange Act, the Interpretation Act and the Canada Labour Code (National Day for Truth and Reconciliation) received Royal Assent.
Not sure if Canada has a National holiday in June yet so that may still be in the offing - just give us a reason. April in both countries does not have a designated holiday except when Easter falls in that month.
