4% a year for five years is 21.67%.

1.04 x 1.04 x1.04 x1.04 x 1.04 = 1.2167


The offer is effectively 3.7% for 5 years. 

1.037 x 1.037 x 1.037 x 1.037 x 1.037 = 1.199


The company is attempting to transfer inflationary wage risk to the employees by offering a long

term front end loaded contract.

I really have no qualms about the workers getting what they can and if the bomber offers that...I have to presume they know what they are doing...Geez...you can now get signing bonuses for working at fast food joints.
