You put it as a joke, but it's not. These V-P are there for the pay first and foremost. Yes they want success for the company, but just to make sure they will keep this well paid job with stock options given for no reasons other than the company thinks it need to do it because these days all tech companies are doing it. Lafond is probably a very good corporate lawyer, but he is not the guy that will finally make the company a success story. He was the same lawyer when the company was almost bankrupt, that's why he got stock options at 0.38$. Because he was there when it was almost out of business.
