About Maintenance Turnarounds....
About Maintenance Turnarounds....A long time ago I used to work for a company that specialized in doing maintenance shutdowns for industrial facilities like oil refineries, tar sands plants, and nuclear power plants, ect, ect.
So first of all no industrial faciliy operates 100% of the time, Every now and then, there is a need to shut down and do some needed maintenance, and also make improvements to the operation. These type of projects require extremely detailed project planning to ensure smooth execution, since every moment the facility is not operating is very costly. However, no matter how good the planning, there is always the possibily of unexpected problems.
So in the case of Q2,, Nif had planned a maintenace turnaround that ran longer than they expected due to unexpected issues.
And then they reduced their forecast production for the 2nd half. So I think the reason they did that is they are planning to have another maintenance shutdown of about 4 weeks or so, and the wide variance in their production forecast is just about uncertaintly as to how long this maintenance is going to take.
I do fault management, however, for doing a very poor job as to comunications about these issues.
