OT - Money for the IRSIn the "Inflation Reduction Bill" which will be signed into law by Biden shortly there is 80 billion extra allocated to the the IRS.
Out of this 80 billion, there is nothing to add to those processing tax returns. There is about 4.7 to enhance customer service at the IRS such as a callback service.
Why am I talking about this?
As many of you know I am one of the "lucky" people who has to file both US and canadian income tax each year. My US return is filed to recover withholding tax that the US Government takes from my US earnings net of my US tax payable (yes I pay US tax).
I filed my US return on March 20th and as yet have not received my refund. I have two numbers that non resident "aliens" can use to contact the IRS. I called both numbers today and no-one anwered the phone. The phone kept ringing until I got a message saying "call failed".
I then did a deeper dive into various sources/contacts I have and found that the most of the people working at the IRS are still working from home and as of August 6th they are still about 6 months behind in processing tax returns.
Perhaps instead of hiring 87,000 new auditors to harras people it would be better for them to hire a few more people to process returns and reduce the backlog. I am not desperate for my refund but I suspect many people in the US and other outside of the US could use their tax refunds.
What an upside down world we live in.
Sorry for the rant!!
