Pirie Likes CNC
Minister of Mines (Bio Below) cites CNC as a model nickel developer:
“But the best approaches have been taken in the relationship building between the mining companies and the progressive leadership of some Indigenous communities in signing IBAs to partner on projects. He cited the example of the IBA signed between Taykwa Tagamou Nation and Canada Nickel Company.
“These companies are doing things correctly because they’ve got enlightened management,” Pirie said. “If you’ve got good relationships with First Nation partners, anything’s possible.”

George Pirie and Canada Nickel
The retired mining executive, who first entered politics in 2018 as Timmins Mayor, is now the MPP (Member of Provincial Parliament) for the riding.
George has big plans for the region:
"This message is focused on growth…It's talking about moving this city into 50,000 people and then 100,000 people."
“I dedicated my professional life to the mining industry, an industry that has created tens of thousands of good paying jobs in Timmins”
Pirie was a mining executive with over thirty-five years of experience in the industry.
His senior positions included CFO of Placer Dome North America, CFO of Placer Dome Canada, President and CEO of Placer Dome Canada, Executive Vice President of Placer Dome Inc
In 2006, Barrick bought Placer for US$10.85 Billion, making it the largest unsolicited takeover bid in Canadian corporate history at the time.
Inside Exploration’s, Mike Coyle met Pirie - and posted this in February on CEO.CA:
“I was incredibly impressed with his knowledge of the project. He was very up to speed on all things CNC. He understood the orebody, the metallurgy, the NetZero aspect and was very quick to point out the support from the local indigenous groups. He loves the project, is in full support of the project and even went as far as to say that he has already spoke to the ministry of transportation to give them the all clear to use the highway for all things CNC. He is actively engaged with Mark and will do whatever he can to help advance the various projects as he views this as a huge opportunity for the Timmins area!”
Mike posted this yesterday:
“With George now being elected I am more confident than ever they Canada nickel will become one of Canada’s largest base metal mining operations. If you all recall not very long ago I was able to have a conversation with George regarding the future of Canada nickel and Timmins in general. Here were my remarks.

This shift in power will bode very well for CNC as they pave the path towards development of the Crawford Nickel Project.:)”
