RE:Yesterday's reaction was fantasticIn a contrary mood today which brought this to mind
"Lies, damned lies, and statistics" is a phrase describing the persuasive power of statistics to bolster weak arguments. It is also sometimes colloquially used to doubt statistics used to prove an opponent's point.
The phrase was popularized in the United States by Mark Twain (among others), who attributed it to the British prime minister Benjamin Disraeli.[1] However, the phrase is not found in any of Disraeli's works and the earliest known appearances were years after his death. Several other people have been listed as originators of the quote, and it is often attributed to Twain himself.[2]
TT, you slipped a statistic in without a direct comparble which is
"
Anaergia:
The gross profit percentage slipped to 19% in the second quarter of this year from 22% in the restated second quarter of the prior year owing to project cost overruns
I'm sure it ( a comparable) exists but one always has to be aware statistics can be used to mislead
