EU metal-shipping crisis

EU metal-shipping crisis EU metal-shipping crisis worsens after Rhine River water levels plummet

“An alarming drop in water levels in Germany’s Rhine River and other key waterways in Europe has led to massively strained logistics in shipping commodities across Europe, driving up costs and exacerbating material supply”

The point is that climate change is global and widespread damage is on-going to food production and transportation worldwide.  We tend to forget last weeks floods, if we learned of them at all, and give little thought to how they may collectively impact food supply and costs.  Just how many years of drought does it take for a billion farmers to become hungry?

I went to school and did some research into cooking oils last week spurred by a news video I saw of demonstrators in the streets of Sir Lanka protesting the cost of cooking oil.  Uh?  Cooking oil like Wesson?  Well, little did I know of the predominance of deep fry foods in many Asian cuisine, particularly stall vendors who depend on low prices to enable the public to purchase his items.  One vendor said he tried to raise prices to cover the high cost of oil, but his business dropped off and he made even less.

I mention this as an example of how political unrest can result from inflation in other lands, and a reduction in global food production will naturally cause prices to rise further.
