Copper and Zinc sulfide ores are most often roasted. The sulfide comes off as SO2 which can be sold or made into sulfuric acid - also a saleable product. The other way of treating them is pressure leaching and the sulfur comes off as elemental sulfur in that process. Yes it is a huge expense and unlikely to be an option unless there was an agreement to process material from other mines in the area. A similar process to marigold would be pretty sweet though. Our grades are higher and we don't have the arsenopyrite that they have to deal with...
