NSP has been pretty quiet since the trade shows in April/June but there appears to be stuff going on Behind the Scenes. Still doing the usual DD, I just haven’t spent much time posting any. If you don’t follow Naturally Splendid Enterprises Ltd. on Facebook then you may have missed a few things. Since the trade shows, NSP has picked up some familiar clients in and around the Greater Vancouver area. They aren’t national accounts but as the little old lady who peed in the ocean said “Every little bit helps!”
Here are some of the recent posts on the NSP Facebook page:
Plantein Foods is now available at Donald's Market in Vancouver BC, Canada.
Plantein Foods are now available at both VeganSupply locations in Vancouver & Surrey
Plantein Foods is now available at both locations of The Vegetarian Butcher in Vancouver & Kelowna.
Plantein Foods is now available at both Pomme Natural Market locations in Port Coquitlam and Nanaimo BC.
Plantein Foods are now available at Whistler's Creekside Market in Whistler, BC Canada!
Plantein Foods are now available at both Stong's Market locations in Vancouver & North Vancouver, BC Canada!
These are the new clients that we have been told about so far, it’s possible there are some white label customers that we won’t ever know about which could include both retail and/or foodservice. I am saying there might be. Each one of the clients above presents additional opportunities... I am not surprised that the Plantein product is in the Creekside Market at Whistler and IMO it won’t remain the only client in Whistler for very long.
The post on the FB page that interests me the most at the moment is from August 16th - Behind the Scenes with the Vancouver Giants. The short 1 min 46 sec video is Rick Lum, Director of Sales, NSP, doing up some suggestions for potential new concession foods for Dale Saip, Senior VP, Vancouver Giants in the NSP “test kitchen”. I don’t think if the meetings/talks were anything but positive that Plantein.ca would be sponsoring a hole at the Vancouver Alumni Golf Tournament held this past Thursday. There are a few pictures posted on the NSP FB page.
I know, some are thinking its concession stand food at the Giant’s games during the hockey season, just another smaller client to add to the list. Collectively IMO these smaller clients represent growth and each one adds value** I also like the exposure… fans who like the food at the games, will be aware (assumed) that it is Plantein product and available at the retail level for home consumption should they choose.
Go back and take a look at the Plantein Australia site, click on the “where to buy” button, type Australia in the Find Stores Near: box… the map shows hundreds and hundreds of places the Plantein products are available in Australia. There are all sizes of clients listed there, some really tiny and then some like IGA1, Woolworths2, hard to say which ones came first. It all didn’t happen overnight but combined they have made Plantein Australia a great success.
Back to Behind the Scenes with the Vancouver Giants. I believe this developing relationship offers some great business opportunities for NSP, but you have to look past the Vancouver Giants concession stands to see where I think the real potential lies. I didn’t see it at first; it’s not real obvious, check out the names of the other VP‘s of the Vancouver Giants, maybe it is only obvious if you are familiar with business in Vancouver. Still not seeing the potential, then have a look at who owns the Giants, ignore the celebrities, keeping “food” in mind. Food is what NSP is selling.

** Little Johnny is always being teased by the other neighborhood boys for being stupid. Their favorite joke is to offer Johnny his choice between a nickel and a dime… Little Johnny always takes the nickel. One day, after Johnny takes the nickel, a neighbor takes him aside and says, "Johnny, those boys are making fun of you. Don't you know that a dime is worth more than a nickel, even though the nickel's bigger?" Johnny grins and says, "Well, if I took the dime, they'd stop doing it, and so far I've made $20!"
