Marathon Gold Corporation is a Canada-based gold exploration and development company. The Company’s primary business focus is the exploration and development of its flagship asset, the wholly owned Valentine Gold Project, located in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The project comprises a series of five mineralized deposits along a 32- kilometer system. Its prospects are located along the Valentine Lake Shear Zone and include Frank Zone, Rainbow Zone, Triangle Zone, Victoria Bridge, Narrows, Victory Southwest, Victory Northeast, and the Berry Zone. In addition to the Valentine Gold Project in the Central Region of Newfoundland and Labrador, the Company holds 100% interests in the Bonanza Mine, a former mine located in Baker County in northeastern Oregon, the Gold Reef property, an exploration property consisting of approximately 12 hectares of claims located near Stewart, British Columbia; and a 2% net smelter returns royalty on precious metal sales by the Golden Chest mine in Idaho.

Couid be, but I suspect many of the exploration-stage juniors that go bust do so because they never produce assay results that are impressive enough to make it worthwhile for large investors to continue to sink more money into the company via more equity raises, so the company is starved to death. That's why I won't take a position in a company until they produce assay results that dazzle enough (and are in a good location in either Canada or the USA) to convince me that the deposit will likely prove to be mineable, and thus either make a good buck on the follow-up exploration and (eventual) corresponding rise in the share price, or get taken out by a producer. Currently, I like NFG and AMX. Conversely, I wouldn't touch LAB, NFLD, ROX, KNC, etc. no matter how low the price because to date they haven't shown me anywhere near what I look for. Now, given gold exploration companies are speculative by definition, there are not guarantees, but I like the potential for signficant share price appreciation and possibly a takeout at a nice premium while cost still remain low at the exploration stage of the company's existence (with GBR being a recent example).
