TBM Cutters. High Demand.

TBM Cutters. High Demand.Today these Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM) are all over the place digging and moving people, water and other things to underground transport across the World.

The cutter head is the total diametre of the tunnel, and the "cutters" are the disks strategically placed on the face of the head to cut the tunnel.

Now the head needs to be just as robust as the cutters to resist wear and I think it would be very high in an alloy that containes Tungsten or some other metals..
So to replace a full face head is not an option, hence the cutter disks which are replaceable when needed, and do wear out at a massive pace when tunneling through hard rock.

I am not sure if these cutters are solid Tungsten Carbide, but they are sure to be a future in demand product. IMHO.
Just a thought.

The cutter head uses a combination of tungsten carbide cutting bits, carbide disc cutters, drag picks and/or hard rock disc cutters. The EPB machine's name come from the use of excavated material to create pressure at the tunnel face.
