There are a few ways one can fight this, if the regulators continue to allow counterfiting to occur. 1. You can raise the cost by paying dividends (not likely), 2. You can consolidate your shares (less stock available to short, more concentrated ownership) if there is afinancing in hand as this proceeds. 3. You can educate your shareholders. This is the route Overstock took, and in a way, its what happened to GameStop.
