Easy to see why keeping it offline at this point was probably a political decision. IMO
There is no question this was political . Freeport had planned to be back up and running months ago , it was only a fire in a piperack (bad valve) but then the regulator jumped in and wanted everything checked . Tanks , piping , gaskets , valves , the coffee machine , everything needed to be recertified before any restart would be allowed .
Now I know of 3 refinery fires in just the past few months and no such requirements were put on those facilities . Put some duct tape on that leak and make more diesel !!!!! Clearly there are 2 sets of criteria for handling O&G that US regulators are working to .
