RE:VALE CHOOSES NATURAL GAS FOR 100% OF ITS PELLETIZING PLANT What are you talking about? Have you read the 2021 climate change report?
Vale_CC_2021-EN.pdf Pelletizing and metallurgy are responsible for more than half of Vale’s emissions and the main decarbonization solutions are: increased use of bioenergy, electrification through the use of plasma to substitute fossil fuels, and energy efficiency gains. Natural gas will still be used during the transition to electrification.
No news here!

Vale has just made its choice with natural gas for 100% of their pelletizing furnaces in Brazil, China and Oman. This will totally eliminate the use of liquid fuel by 2024. See Vale July 1, 2022 Press Release. Technically speaking, I think this is by far the best solution for several reasons:
- the most economical choice (capital and operation)
- proven and readily available, starting in 2023.
- fully compatible with liquefied natural gas, bio-syngas and hydrogen ( or a mixture of both for the future)
- electric grid independent
They also indicates to be developing additional CO2 free solution like biocarbon.
This raises several questions:
- Who is client A?
-If Vale is indeed client A, why this has not been published before (Vale PR of July 1, 2022)
- Absolutely nothing on the Vale.com sites (Brazil, China and Canada) on Plasma Torch or Pyrogenesis.
Also, what impact could this decision have on the pelletizing facilities of Rio Tinto and BHP in Australia and elsewhere?
