Canada: Indo-Pacific Economic Framework
Source: https://www.reuters.com/world/canada-will-seek-membership-indo-pacific-economic-framework-2022-10-27/. Canada to seek membership to Indo-Pacific Economic Framework: In addition to the United States, the IPEF members are Australia, Brunei, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. The countries in September agreed on parameters for negotiating closer trade, environmental and economic ties. IPEF focuses on four areas: trade, supply-chain resiliency, clean energy and a fair economy. However, it is not a free-trade alliance. Canada will not be considered a serious player in the region unless we are part of this key group. Joining IPEF would give us credibility in the region and help strengthen our economic ties to other Pacific countries not currently part of the TPP, such as India, Indonesia, Korea, the Philippines and Thailand.
