03:01 PM EDT, 10/28/2022 (MT Newswires) -- The number of oil rigs operating in the US dropped by two this week, according to data compiled by energy-services firm Baker Hughes (BKR).
The count fell to 610 in the seven days through Friday, Baker Hughes said. A year earlier, the US had 444 oil rigs in operation.
Oil and gas rigs in the US decreased by three to 768. Gas rigs fell by one to 156, while miscellaneous rigs remained unchanged at two, the company's data showed.
In the same period of 2021, there were 100 gas rigs and zero miscellaneous rigs in operation. Overall, there were 544 rigs operating in the US a year ago.
Across North America, oil and gas equipment fell by one to 980, up from 710 at the same point last year. In Canada, the count was up by two on a weekly basis at 212, compared with 166 operating during the same period last year. Canada's oil and gas rigs increased by one each to 145 and 67, respectively.
Among US states, top producer Texas lost three rigs to 368, while Louisiana and North Dakota lost two each.
