RE:Baytex – Investors vs Flippers & VolatilityMy strategy is to attempt to buy low, which I first did around $15 or $18 back in late 2014. BTE had "recently" been in the $50s. Over the years, I kept getting opportunities to buy lower, and lower, and lower. Now probably sitting at 3 dozen buy transactions and 3 or 4 sell/donate transactions to sit at a cost base of low $2s and mid 6 figures number of shares for 40% of my portfolio and 7 figures unrealized capital gains.
I don't trade because trading is based on the principles of being lucky where investing over years/decades is quite deterministic. Plus I am lazy. Why do dozens of transactions a week when a dozen transactions annually gets better results?
Retired at 40, 20 years ago. My 20 year CAGR is 14 or 15%. My average time in a name is at least high single digit years if not a decade. In fact, I have held Methanex continuously since first 600 share purchase 27 or 28 years ago. Yup I am an investor. It just works for the few people who understand the process.
