10:59 AM EST, 11/14/2022 (MT Newswires) -- AMC Entertainment Holdings (AMC) said Monday that more than 4.9 million moviegoers visited its theaters this past weekend, Thursday through Sunday, setting its fourth highest weekend attendance this year.

The company said the increase was driven by the opening of Marvel's "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever," which it expects to become the second highest grossing movie for 2022.

AMC said global admissions during the weekend were 125% above a year ago and 53% above the same weekend in 2019.

AMC Entertainment shares were nearly 9% higher in recent trading.
