RE:Prince Rupert-Green Hydrogen

RE:Prince Rupert-Green HydrogenThe Metlakatla and Lax Kw'alaams First Nations had a commercial agreement for routing of the proposed Hecate wind project back in 2008. The planned transmission interconnection point was to be south of Prince Rupert. Everyone is familar with the offshore windfarm proposal.

Now green hydrogen has attracted attention. Could build onshore wind turbines, but would require many of them as they are smaller size than offshore turbines. Also require a lot of fresh water for hydrogen production.

What size is needed and is producing green ammonia also being considered. Shipping facilities and other infrastructure costs to be considered. If not wind, can BC Hydro supply electricity. Upcoming LNG projects will require electricity, including maybe Phase 2 of LNG Canada. What will be there to spare for green hydrogen production?

Producing hydrogen from salt water at sea and piping to Prince Rupert would be another option when the technology matures.

Northland should be in talks also, unless other plans exist.
