Last weeks rig counts US Oil Rig Count Increases by One This Week, Baker Hughes Says
04:33 PM EST, 11/18/2022 (MT Newswires) -- The number of oil rigs operating in the US rose by one this week, according to data compiled by energy-services firm Baker Hughes (BKR).
The count increased to 623 in the seven days through Friday, Baker Hughes said. A year earlier, the US had 461 oil rigs in operation.
Oil and gas rigs in the US increased by three to 782. Gas rigs rose by two to 157, while miscellaneous rigs remained unchanged at two, the company's data showed.
In the same period of 2021, there were 102 gas rigs and zero miscellaneous rigs in operation. Overall, there were 563 US rigs operating a year ago.
Across North America, oil and gas equipment increased by four to 983, up from 730 at the same point last year. In Canada, the count was up by one on a weekly basis at 201, compared with 167 during the same period last year. Canada's oil rigs rose by two to 135, while gas lost one rig to 66.
Among US states, top producer Texas added two rigs to 375, while New Mexico lost three.
