While penis size makes no difference in a man’s ability to sexually perform and reproduce, alot of men would prefer to have a couple more inches.
Some people choose to have penis enlargement surgery to boost their confidence in the bedroom, while others claim it helps them feel more powerful.
But a doctor has taken to social media to warn men against going under the knife when it comes to their manhood.
Dr David Reiner, an Australian-trained anaesthetic specialist, shared the informative video to his 87K TikTok followers.
The expert opened the video saying: “You should definitely not get an operation on your penis to make it larger.
“It doesn’t work and do you really want someone cutting into your penis.”
He explained that there are procedures available for men who want a plus-size pecker - one to lengthen the penis and another to give it more girth - and both should be avoided.
"One is we cut the suspension ligament, and that makes the penis look longer," explains the doctor.
"Now, that's great for the men's change room, but for actual intercourse it actually reduces function and it can make the penis unstable and you can break your penis.
"You do not want to go there."
The suspensory ligament plays a major role in proper penis functioning, especially during sexual intercourse - so avoiding injury to this tissue is essential.
What’s more, ligament tears rarely heal naturally like other parts of the body.
The second option involves “injecting fat” into the penis to “make it thicker”, explained the expert.
He added: "But that's freaking insane. You're going to get lumps and bumps in your penis, it's going to be uneven and you're going to be more insecure."
To alert men about the dangers of the procedure, he told users: “I’ve had to provide anaesthesia to cut someone’s penis off because of an infection.
“Now there is nothing that’s worth that risk. Do not do it.”
In a separate video, the specialist warned followers to not use pills and lotions that claim to make your member bigger as they are a waste of money and don’t work.
He added: “If you want techniques on how to deal with the mental issues of having a penis that you think is smaller please follow and we will go through those techniques.”
According to the NHS: “Each penis is unique and boys develop at different ages and rates.
“During puberty, usually between the ages of 11 and 18, the penis and testicles develop more rapidly, although the penis doesn’t stop growing until the age of 21.”
In a study published in the British Journal of Urology, a normal length of a flaccid and erect penis length was investigated.
The research involved 15,521 men and found that on average a flaccid penis measures at 3.61 inches (9.16cm) and 3.67in (9.32cm) in circumference.
For an erect penis, the average came in at 5.17in (13.13cm) long and 4.59in (11.65cm) in circumference.
