BNS has been the bank laggard..for past 4 years

Its a coin toss...I added to CM last week...lol bad timing
but its a bank stock and i plan to hold for next 15 year-20 years
so not worried...I own TD( the best) BNS and CM...

good luck

I admire your ability to buy and hold a stock for such a lengthy period of time... no can do for me! And, I'm certainly not going to tell you how you should invest/divest or what strategy you should use, when it comes to investing.

But, one thing is for sure... It's all about the timing isn't it?!

I purchased BNS in March/April of 2020. My in-price position for 800 shares was $52.84 p/s. I divested the full position in March/22 @ $93.00 for a nice capital gain, plus of course the dividend yield of ~4.5% over the 2 year period.

I have recently repurchased 400 shares in July/22 @ $74.80 and another 400 in Sept/22 @ $67.85, for an average share price of $71.33. I'll hold until it nears the $100 range and divest it all again.

It's my humble opinion that BNS will do just fine and continue to be an awesome investment going forward.

Hey fellow... Relax! My comment was in reference to your statement, "... I added to CM last week... lol bad timing but it's a bank stock and I plan to hold for next 15 - 20 years."

I was being genuine in my comment... "I admire your ability to buy and hold a stock for such a lengthy period of time."... after all, you did say you were going to hold CM for 15 - 20 years.

Now, since you're such an accomplished investor, let me run this by you.

You say you bought BNS 4-years ago, you're still holding, and are now underwater because you choose not to divest your shares when then ran up to $90+.

Just for arguement sake, let's say you purchased 500 shares of BNS 4-years ago, sometime between Jan-Mar/19, you would have probably bought them in the vicinity of $68 - $73. If you did, then you could have sold in March/22 @ $93 and made a tidy profit of between $10K and $12.5K.

You chosse not to divest, but to hold your position... fine with me! I did indicate in my previous post that I certainly was not telling you how to invest/divest or what investing strategy to use.

Now, let's review my scenario... I bought 800 shares of BNS @ an average price of $52.84 in Mar/Apr of 2020 and sold the position @ $93 in Mar/22 for a gain of $32K plus of course the dividends over the 2-year period, while you are, in your words, "still underwater".

And, as I stated, I have just recently bought back the position of 800 shares @ an average price of $71.33... so in regard to BNS, I effectively have a net gain of ~$16K and 800 free shares of BNS after my initial investment 2.5 years ago.

One final thing... you do know that the sole intent of investing in the stock market is to MAKE MONEY, right?! If you continue to swim underwater, without coming up for air, you're gonna' drown one of these days!

You have your strategy... I have mine! What was that again about "ZERO CLUE"?!
