The marijuana biz is high stakes in the USand I don't think I am too off base when I think that the politicians and policy makers are willing to play those high stakes to the degree that the cartels and gangs are.
Most investors are aware that the public perception in favour of legalization should be honoured which raises the question of why this is taking so long.
The US has done what Canada did with the exception of making it not worthwhile for the bad guys. Somebody guessed that 90% of the pot grown may still be illegal and that they even have storefronts.
That has got to raise questions of safety of product for consumers.
At least Canada got the price reduction to make legal, safe, inspected and traceable weed available for close to the same price as the black market stuff.
Canada legalized and choked the livin' s!#t out of the potential all at once with stupid possession and labelling rules but anybody with the entry fee could play.
Hindsight is so clear now that the oversupply is killing the profit potential and the US needs to deal with their illegal supply and when they do they can wrestle this from the badguys either through value added far beyond smokeables and pharma use which I don't believe the black market will pursue, at least yet.
For the doubtful investors or lurkers on the Canopy bullboard, I don't think they have assessed the potential and future of the marijuana and hemp business, especially on US soil.
Irrational exuberance can happen anytime the sheep get moving and picking out the silver linings in a downtrend stockmarket is difficult and not for the faint of heart and committment.
I think high interest rates and inflation are at runaway levels and we haven't even felt the pinch that is coming when people can't meet their mortgages and start losing their cars for the same reason.
Every depressive move in the market still has a couple of silver linings and I like gold and pot and I am looking for a good gold investment and have already chosen my pot investment which is Canopy.
When Canopy/Constellation puts all of that ability to work on US soil, backed by deep pockets and probably the largest asset portfolio of likeminded companies, the synergies will be great even with Constellation calling in their loan.
Constellation are hardcore and smart and they legitimized Canopy, I think, over the beverage skus to round out their committment to being a number 3 alcohol player in the US and elsewhere.
Constellation chose Canopy who chose Acreage, and GAGE, TER and Jetty and all of the others are strategically planned, manned by Constellation people who I believe will keep on pumping money into it to have their way.
They also have totally legit stuff lined up too with Bio Steel, CBD options et al the other stuff that I can't think of now.
There is a bloodbath coming for the underfinanced and less motivated but future see ers like Canopy/Constellation will still be standing and leading the survivors.
