RE:RE:RE:RE:Witholding tax on distributionsnavajojoe is correct. According to my TD letter, as of
"January 1, 2023, a 10 per cent U.S. Withholding tax may be levied on dispositions of and distributions from all Publicly Traded Partnerships held by non-US persons (eg Canadian residents who are not US citizens) in any account type, including RRSP, RRIF, TFSA, RESP and RDSP." The operative word here is "may". Obviously, covid has gutted the finances of governments around the globe. No surprise really that the hunt for new revenue streams are out there. I expect new tax levies from our own government in the years to come. Covid will have a long lasting effect.
Having said that, the postives for owning this dramatically outweigh the negative of this tax levy... IF it even passes.
