RE:ProfiteeringThere is no "fairness" in this debate marketsense , whether its politics or personal belief our society is totally bifurcated , the "middle ground" is now "no man's land" . The very purpose of a freely elected democracy is to enable a level playing field and improve economic/living standards but today politics is reduced to the art of finger pointing . The rhetoric is predictable , "they're to blame" , "Putin's inflation" , "be afraid of this" , it's shameless and unproductive . Answers , honesty and actions are sorely missing in today's politician . Biden's use of the SPR to win an election is highly unethical if not actually illegal .
Left wing politics have decided that oil is responsible for anything and everything . It still cracks me up that global warming gets blamed for a polar vortex effecting Texas but that's a different topic . Be it hot , cold , wet or dry it's oil's fault . While not everyone owns a car , everyone has to eat but food inflation gets a pass in the halls of power . Gas prices at the pumps have fallen steadily but grocery bills remain high or higher than last year . Why ?
The big picture is lost in misinformation , oil is cheaper today than before Russia invaded Ukraine when the price of oil was rising because of the left wing war on O&G . Everyone could see that restrictive policy had choked supply and was causing prices to rise but the day the war started it all got blamed on Putin , Putin's inflation .
This is all made possible because the media has abdicated the covenant of responsible journalism for story telling and government released talking points , Liberals in Canada have openly boasted about "owning the media" . Without a truly free press doing their job , the news amounts to little more than propaganda and governments get a free pass . Think about the Watergate scandal , 2 devoted reporters stayed on that story for over a year and eventually exposed corruption and political interference at the highest levels in the US government . Hard to believe todays "yes" media would have either the know-how or determination to investigate anything that complex .
A secure energy supply should be our priority but left leaning policy puts it all at risk . The UK's windfall tax on energy has Shell , Total and Harbour Energy cutting further investment and refusing to take part in bidding for new offshore licences in the North Sea . These oppressive policies are in direct conflict with calls for increased production , the adults need to start acting their age and not their shoe size .
