RE:exro Thanks for the post. If you listen carefully to Josh, you can usually get some insight into the future direction and priority for the company, like designing CDs for combined highway/urban commercial uses....like buses or trucks.
The CD requires the configuring of a motor's windings into separate segments and the provision of additional penetrations/access points. Which suggests that the next Tier 1 has some expertise with electric power drives.
There are five companies on EXRO's potential Tier 1 Partner list that fit this bill - Aisin, Denso, Valeo, Bosch and Allison- all major companies in their own right. All viable candidates (maybe less so for Bosch after Eric's less-than-flattering comments on Bosch's new inverter :)
Allison is unique in that it is a major player in the military space which is going hybrid. It is also the world leader for hybrid bus systems. It recently introduced its new family of eGen Power Solutions for hybrids and fully electric eaxles for medium and heavy duty buses and trucks. Its products (transmissions) are included in all medium to heavy US military vehices, including the JLTV.
As Josh stated in the interview: "The Coil Driver gives the engineer another option to tweak the design of the powertrain and get more out of the machine."
It is interesting that Oshkosh also recently stated that it is "tweaking" its hybrid JLTV to get more range and speed in battery only mode.
Probably only coincidence...
