Granite, carbonates, consolidated sandstone and shale all have similar densities of 2.6-2.8 g/cc. The presence or absence of hydrocarbons really doesn't make enough difference. Only young, unconsolidated sands and shales, and more notably salt, have a materially different (lower) density. This is why gravity was used 80 years ago to find salt domes in the gulf coast area.
I think it's misdirection from Recon, and an excuse for delaying the next round of drilling.
