I believe in at least one of the news reports regarding this shooting incident it mentioned that the school had some type of metals/weapons scanners but they were not used on 100% of the subjects entering.
"Schools chief Parker said he'll look at upgrading the district's metal detectors, which can be activated for certain days, but which were not in effect full time at the elementary school."
