They built a big fat resource.  That's really good and they've both been justifiably honored for having done so.  What's going on now has almost nothing to do with their accomplishments.

On top of that, Phill is closing in on 80.  Not trying to be ageist, but the workload associated with bringing a big project like VGP to completion is immense; the team is almost certainly working 12-16 hour days.  I don't believe he'd be able to get it done, even if he had the political capital on the street, which i don't think he has.
