RE:RE:Twitter shut's down its APINot sure DM uses the Twitter API but I doubt it. An API is used for two different applications to communicate with each other. Usually an app like twitter would allow third party apps to request information through a set of function calls. These set of functions make up the API.
As an example a function in the twitter API which might be called UserTweets(username) would return all the tweets of a specific user.
As for DM I think they would be scraping data from twitter which is a quicker method than asking for the ton of data through an API call. Also twitter may also limit the amount of data requested which would defeat the purpose.
