Air Canada adds Calgary to list ending air service

Air Canada adds Calgary to list ending air serviceAir Canada announced that it was ending service to Calgary according to news reports.  Calgary joins Saskatoon and Regina to the list of cites that Air Canada will no longer be providing air service to.  The reason cited by Air Canada was that they were streamlining the ir operations in Canada.  The ending of air service to these 3 cities, in particular, coincidentally, comes only a few weeks after both the Government of Saskatchewan and the Government of Alberta announced their Saskatchewan First and the Alberta Soverienty Act.  It will be interesting ti see if other less profitable cites are dropped from air service by Air Canada in the near future.  If not then one must ask if the action to drop service to Calgary, Saskatoon and Regina was part of a streamlining of A/C's operations or it the actions were politically motivated.  I the meantime, this does open a door to other air carriers to take up the slack in service created by Air Canada.  Canada Jetlines may have an opportunity here.
