I disagree with you on this...I think holding stocks for a long period of time can provide a hedge against inflation, as the value of the stocks may increase at a rate higher than the rate of inflation. Furthermore, dividends earned from owning stocks can provide a steady source of income for the investor. Finally, staying invested in the stock market for a long period of time can also help to reduce the impact of short-term market fluctuations on an investor's portfolio.
