Blakelock4The western extension of the Casa Berardi Deformation Zone (CBDZ) traverses just to the south of the RTM Blakelock property. In doing some research, I found that the ground along the CBDZ, directly south of the RTM property, is held by Harfang Exploration. Their property contains siltstone/argillite, conglomerate, felsic tuff/sediments, mafic to intermediate volcanics, monzodiorite and lots of feldspar porphyry dykes. Most of the gold showings are located along or near the north contact of the CBDZ, within the feldspar porphyry. Check out their website!
I wondered if there could be a splay fault coming from the CBDZ, and heading towards the RTM property. I looked at a Residual Total Magnetic Field Map 82394 that covers the area and I've basically interpreted a fault that strikes NNW/SSE. It traverses through the northeastern corner of the RTM property, and also cuts through the CBDZ region of the Harfang Exploration's property, just east of Magiskan Lake.
Referring to the Blakelock Project on RTM's website, a geology map that was used in Figure 2 was taken from Ontario Geological Survey Map P3609.
I then located the same above geological map on the 2010- 2011 Recommendations for Mineral Exploration - Ontario Report:
It basically shows a cross-cutting fault that extends from the Harfang Exploration property on the CBDZ and heads towards the RTM property. In the above article, it explains how this fault was interpreted. Rather interesting theoretical interpretation!!
Referring to Map P3609 again, conglomerates rap around the western fold of the volcanic/sedimentary belt, which then continues east, almost to the RTM property. Could this wide feature be an anticline or a syncline? Again, the conglomerates on the map are just short of the RTM property. Could there in fact be conglomerates and feldspar porphyry within the northern region of the RTM property?
It will also be noted on Map P3609, that there are several gold showings on either side of this interpreted cross-cutting fault mentioned above, close to the CBDZ, within Harfang's property. If this cross-cutting fault is authentic, then it gives the RTM property a promising exploration target for gold, in proximity to the fault.
Another interesting map was a Shadow Magnetic Map, taken from OFR 6236 (Figure 5, page 45). It shows a diabase dyke/fault traversing from the CBDZ, through the area of gold occurrences on Harfang's property and then continues north towards the northeastern corner of the RTM property. Could this be a structure that has carried auriferous hydrothermal fluids towards the RTM property from the CBDZ?
The digital data of the magnetic total field is available for this area. If acquired, RTM may want to consider processing it, and carrying out a 2nd derivative on this data, covering the Blakelock property. The zero (0) contour level on this processed data will be very close to where the contact of the underlying geological bodies will be found. This should assist in locating the drill collars, if this is the eventual plan for RTM.
