Improvements to Stockhouse

Improvements to StockhouseThis may be one of those "Oh no! They improved it!" moments.

One of the potential problems with the new Stockhouse layout may be related to posters that we have on ignore. I don't put anybody on ignore for the simple reason that anybody can make comments that should have a response. Some of my most deeply researched or most involved responses are to posters that many readers have put on ignore, or poster that many readers don't bother to read..

The only real solution to this is to start a new thread that references something that's come up elsewhere. Typically, my responses to largely ignored posters get a third or so fewer reads than posts that I put up as new threads. It can be a wasted effort to respond to some posters.

But with the old layout, my responses to ignored posters still appeared, at least. We often see somebody commenting that they can't see the original post that I'm responding to, but they can see my posts. In this new layout, it appears that they won't see any responses to posters they have on ignore.

But Stockhouse is saying that they will be heavily monitoring the first post and they are encouraging posters to avoid starting new threads in response to older threads.

That seems OK for sports and news forums but we all know each other here. Few posts are out of context. We all know what each other is talking about. I think that when posters put in the effort to create a considered response to any post, and our comment is then hidden within the original thread, that hidden post won't be read as much as before.

But time moves on, things are "improved" and we must adapt. I won't be responding to posts much in the future. Already the posts I made yesterday are not visisble, at all, unless you enter a thread by a poster you usually don't bother reading.

Not worth the effort to respond, I'm afraid.
