Yasch posted about BlackBerry

Yasch posted about BlackBerry Chen said last year that revenue in IoT and CS would be flat y-o-y from FY/22's $655m. Though total revenue will be $656m for FY/23, last year's forecast was off by $31m, or 4.7%. IoT & CS in FY/23 will be $624m, while Licensing is still hanging in there at $32m, with $22m in Q3 & Q4. We won't know how much CS revenue was withheld by the "elongated sales cycles" for government contracts unless Chen specifies it later this month OR until the AGM + Q1 results in June.
the revenue miss in CS is NOT good. Equally worrying is the impairment charge of $440m for BlackBerry Spark. That suggests BB's UES/UEM business is still being hammered by the giants -- Microsoft and VMware, mainly -- but also by commoditization + lower prices from a score of smaller competitors. Note: BB is not alone amongst tech stocks for having a bad year. Just check the 12-month share prices for all the tech stocks on your watchlist. The good news is from IoT. Revenue grew in FY/23 despite an 8% drop in worldwide auto sales and cutbacks on spending by a lot of OEMs and restructuring/re-thinking of their SW stacks.
