AGN receives US patent for CKD drugAlgernon Pharmaceuticals Inc.has received a Notice of Allowance from the United States Patent and Trademark Office for its lead drug NP-251 (Repirinast), a promising candidate for treating chronic kidney disease and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Repirinast was previously marketed by Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma to treat asthma, and Algernon has since obtained a supply from a Chinese manufacturer. Preclinical studies have shown Repirinast to reduce hepatic fibrosis by 57% and the NAFLD score by 31%, making it a strong candidate for treatment.
