Motive for Strategic Review....?Quote from the BB press release dated May 1, 2023: "BlackBerry Limited......today announced that the BlackBerry Board of Directors will initiate a review of its portfolio of businesses."
Thus, it appears the the review may result in the entire company being sold vs. just one or more divisions vs. maintaining the status quo.
Question is, why, and why now?
Is it because:
a) BB wants to give a short-term boost to its share price by making it appear as if the company is significantly undervalued in its current state? Given a recession may be in the cards for H2 2023 in Canada, the USA, and elsewhere, the rest of 2023 (and beyond?) may not be looking so great in terms of share price appreciation.
b) BB's BOD and top management figures truly believe it is significantly undervalued and wants to see how much it can get for any particular division or for the company as a whole?
c) Other?
The pool of potential suitors may be limited given the GOC may veto a deal with a company / in a country it or the USA believe is a potential security threat.
Will be interesting to see how things transpire.
