Allied Copper Corp. changes name to Volt Lithium Corp. Late last week, Allied Copper Corp. officially changed its name to Volt Lithium Corp. (Tickers VLT.v or VLTLF for US investors). Although the company still controls multiple copper assets, it is now focusing on its most developed asset, the Rainbow Lake Lithium Project.

Rainbow Lake totals 435,000 acres in Northwest Alberta. Already an active oil operation, the project's brines also contain lithium in concentrations of up to 119 mg/L.
By working with the company that controls the oil and gas rights to the project, VLT saves capital by using the project's pre-existing wells, roads, and other infrastructure. VLT also did not have to do its own exploration of the project as it was already known to contain lithium-enriched brine. The company has also been able to leverage regulatory benefits from operating within an already active site by not having to apply for any of its own permits.
VLT has developed a unique direct lithium extraction (DLE) process which is tailored to Rainbow Lake's specific oilfield brines. With this process, VLT believes it can become the first company in North America to produce lithium hydroxide and lithium carbonates from oilfield brine.
To further test its DLE process VLT is currently conducting a pilot production program. In this program VLT is taking brines from Rainbow Lake and processing them in a simulated commercial environment. It is expected that this program will help VLT fine-tune the equipment that is needed for full-scale production and display that the company can operate at Rainbow Lake economically.
Results from the pilot are expected later this quarter and if all goes as well as expected VLT will be on track to producing commercially in the second half of 2024.
