Guess we will find out sometime in the next couple of months.

One other factor that I will through into the mix is that over the years I have seen companies make decisions not totally based on rational finance and economics considerations but also because CEO A doesn't like CEO B and wants to take him out (a macho testoserone thing).  Have no idea whether this matters in this case but I would bet that over the years Kruger and Lance have crossed paths many times (it is a small world at the top of any industry).

All that aside, the important question now as shareholders of SU is to make a judgement as to whether it really matters to the SP of SU if COP does or doesn't exercise its right of refusal.  If it makes no difference then who cares?  If it does, then what is your contingency plan?
