Teck's Multiple strategic failures
Teck's Multiple strategic failures Teck/Cominco may do a reasonbable job as miners but just aren't good at strategic planning, and actions to grow a company strategically i.e. Failure to acquire INCO, selling Fording - then buiying it back, selling Waneta (their competive advantage asset), the For Hill financila fiasco, and the current split into metals and coal.
Glencore, on the other hand, is experienced and successful at strategic planning and expansion of its base. With this in mind - it is likely that Glencore will put together the deal (effectively for Teck) with 2 or perhaps 3 parties that sees the creation of a Metals and Coal company and Glencore achieves its objectives.
Teck simply does not have the wherewithal or any background in doing something like this.
