RE:Article on Suriname, Block 58, and a Wei mentionKcac1, Well on Kawa they announced the discovery of a hydrocarbon system - source, migration pathway, trap. Everybody has known for years that the massive Canje formation underlying the entire basin is the "source kitchen". You can reference a study done by Yallup and Scotsman of Halliburton by googling it. They say in the report that to this day kerogen is being converted into hydrocarbons in the Canje.
The migration pathway may well be the Coniacian formation that extends over large areas as shown by the seismic provided by CGX. They drilled into the Coniacian on Kawa. They took a kick there if memory serves. They will not drill into the Coniacian on Wei.
Now for the traps. The sand packages in the Santonian, Campanian Maastritician are the traps. I guess that oil must flow through the Coniacian, migrate upwards and get trapped. What I just wrote is my uneducated, uninformed interpretation of the webinars and info provided based on my very sketchy knowledge in the earth sciences.
What I'm waiting for is for someone to paint a picture that a lay person can understand. Yes there's a chance that they'll test the well but it's a very expensive proposition. I've been told that it's in the $20 to $30 million range.
