- The Summit will take place on May 27 and 28 in the city of Bogot, with the representation of miners and inhabitants of 13 regions of the country with a strong presence of mining operations, from all sectors: industrial minerals, precious stones, rare earths, metal, coal and construction materials.
Bogot, May 26, 2023 @MinEnergiaCo 50 working groups to discuss mining territories, the components towards a new Mining Law, industrialization and energy transition, and the regularization of non-formal mining to advance Mining for Life , will be part of the discussion of the first National Mining Summit.
1,500 mining stakeholders will participate in the meeting that is part of the agenda of the Ministry of Mines and Energy, for the reflection and construction of the new Mining Law.
“We have an unprecedented opportunity to dialogue with the mining sector and be able to build a new policy in the country, which will take us out of the effects of more than 22 years of a regulation that has left us with thousands of socio-environmental conflicts in the mining sector, and where we give priority to mining territorial planning around water, to the creation of instruments for the diversification of economic activities in mining regions, to advance in the just energy transition, industrialization and to dignify the lives of miners and inhabitants of territories where mining is practiced," said Irene Vlez Torres, Minister of Mines and Energy.
During the National Mining Summit, the problems, challenges and proposals will be addressed from the vision of the mining communities, companies, academia, the populations of the territories where minerals are used, and hand in hand with the National Government, to collect inputs that serve as a guide for the construction of the text of the Mining Law.
“The specificities of the different materials and minerals from mining extraction, their needs for modernization, and the opportunities for chaining and industrialization will be analyzed, from the particularities of each region. Likewise, we will talk with very diverse actors and in a plural dialogue about the technical and technological opportunities of mining in the different territories and regions with the purpose of transforming the socio-environmental conflicts of the sector” explained Vlez Torres.
The first National Mining Summit, which will take place on May 27 and 28 at the National University. It had a characterization process to guarantee an equitable representation of all mining actors in the different regions of the country with a high presence of activities of this type.
