VLT.v Sets Sights on Commercial Production In anticipation of the projected increase in demand for lithium in the coming years, companies that can innovate in lithium extraction methods stand to gain significant advantages. Volt Lithium (Ticker: VLT.v or VLTLF for US investors) is making notable progress towards becoming the first North American company to extract lithium from oilfield brines. Today, VLT.v closed with an 11% share price increase.
Recently, VLT successfully completed a pilot production program using oilfield brines from their Rainbow Lake project, showcasing the effectiveness of their proprietary Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) technology. During the pilot project, Volt achieved impressive lithium recoveries of 90% even at concentrations as low as 34 mg/L. Furthermore, under simulated operating conditions with concentrations of 120 mg/L, the recovery rate reached an outstanding 97%, all while keeping operating costs below CAD$4,000 per tonne. These results highlight the efficiency of Volt's two-step extraction method utilizing the DLE technology.
With the successful completion of the pilot program, VLT has outlined its next steps, which include establishing a permanent pilot plant, advancing the engineering design phase, and targeting commercial production by the second half of 2024.
