VLT CEO Interview on the Company's Pilot Program As the demand for lithium is projected to soar with the rise of EVs and other green technologies, companies that can tap into previously inaccessible sources of lithium stand to gain significant advantages. One such company making waves in this space is Volt Lithium (Ticker: VLT.v or VLTLF for US investors). VLT's mission is to become North America's first commercial producer of lithium carbonates and lithium hydroxide from oilfield brine.
VLT controls the lithium extraction rights for the Rainbow Lake project, which was recently estimated to contain 4.3 million tonnes of lithium in oilfield brine with concentrations up to 121 mg/l.
VLT has recently accomplished a major milestone with the Rainbow Lake project by successfully conducting a pilot production program, utilizing its proprietary Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) technology.
During this pilot project, VLT achieved remarkable lithium recoveries of 90%, even at concentrations as low as 34 mg/L. Notably, when concentrations were 120 mg/L, the recovery rate reached an outstanding 97%, all while maintaining operating costs below CAD$4,000 per tonne. These impressive results serve as a testament to the efficiency of Volt's two-step DLE extraction method.
With the pilot program successfully completed, VLT plans to establish a permanent pilot plant and advance the engineering design phase so it can start producing commercially by the second half of 2024.
