Fathom Nickel Inc C.FNI

Alternate Symbol(s):  FNICF

Fathom Nickel Inc. is a Canada-based exploration company. The Company is targeting magmatic nickel sulfide discoveries to support the growing global electric vehicle market and to secure the supply of North American critical minerals. The Company has a portfolio of three exploration projects located in the prolific Trans Hudson Corridor in Saskatchewan: Albert Lake Project, Gochager Lake Project, and Friesen Lake Project. The Albert Lake property consists of approximately 90,000+ hectares, located within the Rottenstone Domain, which defines the western margin of the Trans Hudson Corridor. The Gochager Lake property, consists of 34 contiguous mineral claims totaling over 22,620 hectares. Its 10,000+ hectare Friesen Lake Project is located 40 kilometers (km) southwest of the historic Rottenstone Mine and 30km northwest of the Gochager Lake deposit.

The 2008 VTEM Survey over the Gochager property

The 2008 VTEM Survey over the Gochager property

Just a follow up on the 2008 VTEM survey and its importance to Fathom Nickel's discovery at Gochager. I have had base metal geologists review this information and they say this looks very promising and the similarities with the geophysical "eye" feature are obvious. It was described to me by the base metal geologists that this "eye" feature was a result of magma coming up from the mantle through a major crack or opening in the earth's crust between two different geological formations known as the Rottenstone and La Ronge Domains within the Trans Hudson Corridor that extends down through Saskatchewan from northern Manitoba where the famous Thompson Nickel Belt is located. And the Gochager Nickel deposit sits right on the border of these two formations as stated below. The pieces of the puzzle are coming together with this discovery.

  1. The Gochager Lake area and deposit sit on the boundary between the Rottenstone Domain and the La Ronge Domain. It is well known that structural boundaries between two major geological terranes are an excellent geological environment for the formation of world-class Ni-Cu deposits, with  Voisey’s Bay Ni-Cu camp being the most recent example of this.

Fathom has now identified 11 high priority targets based on this geophysics that at the time I don't think it was well understood just how important it was because Nova Bollinger was not discovered until 2013 or 5 years after the VTEM was completed so it was impossible to make the comparison. The "eye" feature at Gochager is very similar to that of the Nova geophysical "eye" feature at Nova Bollinger. I think this is why Quinton Hennigh makes the comparison of Nova to Gochager because of these similarities also the assays are almost identical to each other in similar rock.

This doesn't by any means guarantee success but given the two properties have similar geophysical features and Fathom Nickel has already confirmed a world class intersection of 2.06% Ni over 25.75 meters the probability of success has increased tremendously. Also the downhole geophysics is indicating something significant at depth beyond any prior drilling. Also the off hole conductors extend out 200 meters from the hole as Quinton Hennigh made reference to in his presentation on the company awhile back. Everything is adding up towards Fathom making a significant nickel discovery and I think this is why Quinton Hennigh is so confident about his buy recommendation on FNI because he knows they will find a lot more high grade nickel. How much nobody knows for sure but this is how great discoveries get started. Links below about this geophysical information on the "eye" feature talked about on the Nova Bollinger exploration link discussing the importance of the geophysics in that discovery.

Current analyses of the available geophysical data (airborne and ground surveys) for the Gochager Lake area reveal for the first time a striking “EYE” shaped conductivity and lesser so magnetic pattern engulfing the deposit. This phenomenon is similar to the “EYE” like geophysical patterns associated with the recent discovery of the Nova-Bollinger nickel mining camp in the Fraser Range, Australia where the “EYE” feature identifies new high priority targets in which conductive Ni-Cu bodies lie within the “EYE” feature.

The komatiitic composition of Gochager-type mineralization is not compatible with the host gabbro rock and silicate mineral compositions, which implies the Ni-Cu-Co sulphide mineralization was introduced into the host gabbro by a much more primitive larger komatiitic system at depth or proximal to the Gochager Lake deposit. This and the nature of the comparable MAL mineralization suggest a “Tip of the Iceberg” scenario for the known Gochager-style mineralization in the area.
