VLT.v: Tapping into Inaccessible Lithium Sources Volt Lithium (Ticker: VLT.v or VLTLF for US investors) is a company at the forefront of the lithium industry, poised to capitalize on the increasing demand driven by EVs and green technologies. With a focus on tapping into previously inaccessible lithium sources, VLT aims to become North America's first commercial producer of lithium carbonates and lithium hydroxide derived from oilfield brine.
Controlling the lithium extraction rights for the Rainbow Lake project, which boasts an estimated 4.3 million tonnes of lithium in oilfield brine with concentrations reaching 121 mg/l, VLT has achieved a significant milestone through a successful pilot production program.
You can click here to watch VLT's CEO, Alex Wylie, talk about the pilot program:
As explained by Wylie, VLT leveraged its proprietary Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) technology to achieve impressive lithium recoveries of up to 97% at low concentrations as low as 34 mg/L, while maintaining cost efficiency with operating costs below CAD$4,000 per tonne.
Building on this success, VLT plans to establish a permanent pilot plant and progress with engineering design to commence commercial production by the second half of 2024.
