Turns out that China is a much larger thorn in the side than I realized.
I just read that Syrah had to go to the well again.
It seems that China has influenced the price of graphite to the point that SYR has actually curtailed production.
They want to stop the bleeding at Balama.
Inflationary factors have created a need for more capital to complete Vidalia.
What cash flow was being created at Balama is no longer available.
I also saw somewhere that the total amount of graphite brought into the U.S. in '22 was miniscule. I think around 125 metric tons. Every bit of it came from China. So much for the U.S. weaning itself off of China's you know what.
It is definitely going to take time for the ex China graphite supply chain to materialize. And, as you say,
the capital required is not readily available for companies like NGC. SYR is lucky to have a sugar mama.
