Just started following Robert Bryce a couple months ago.
FWIW been following Chris Martenson since 2010.
He was one of the earlier voices on Peak Oil back then. (There were many others)
He is typically great on macro issues, but not typically focused on actionable investment ideas.
I used to subscribe to Peak Prosperity, but lost interest around 2015 approx.
To my surprise, I randomly came across one of his Youtube videos in January 2020.
He was speaking about the increasing hospitalizations in China (Months before mainstream media).
He was uncharacteristically emotional about preparing for a coming pandemic.
Turns out he has a doctorate in Biology. I never knew what his doctorate was in prior :-)
His talks of the pending calamity sounded a bit "Tin foil hat" to me at the time, but I prepared as best I could anyway. Added to my food, booze, toilet paper, batteries, added a couple propane tanks for the BBQ, and bought a few more 5 gallon water bottles. We have one of those cheap 5 gallon water stands in the kitchen. Tried to buy a few N95 masks, but they were sold out everywhere in JANUARY 2020 in my area, China had already stopped exporting them. Anyways Chris gave me a good head start on the upcoming pandmemic. Wish I had tried harder to spread his early covid prep message, but to be honest, I was a bit doubtful myself.
Chris also advised selling stocks and going to cash / gold. I surveyed my portfolio, already bruised from some previous losses, I decided to stand pat, I was soon to experience the beat down of my life :-)
I soon regretted not listening to Chris's "Free" advice regarding stocks, promised I would watch him a bit closer in the future.
About 9 months later Chris began expressing doubts about the various covid vaccines. He wanted to see actual data with control groups etc., as we all (most people anyway :-) know now the (limited) data made available was suspect and did not withstand Chris Martenson's basic scrutiny.
I tried to share Chris Martenson's scrutiny of the covid vaccines but to little effect. Turns out the rantings of TIn Foil Hat Nukester are not widely respected outside of the trailer park :-)
Back to Peak Oil... it is real and worthy of study as it directly effects Alberta discretionary spending.
Chris Martenson and Robert Bryce are worthy of following for a variety of reasons. I have not really followed Hirsch, but he keeps good company appearing with Martenson and Bryce.
Cheers,
Nukester
I get your frustration.
Adults have to be permitted to make their own choices.
And it's tough to watch people you care about make a choice that may harm them.
I say that as I watch people make poor financial, social and medical decisions.
Just keep widdling down your inner circle.
What's left is the good stuff.
We can't fix stupid. I leaned that working for fancy clients at fancy investment firms. Good lesson.
What's interesting to me right now is that we are in a recession, yet oil prices look resilliant.
This may be a sign that as we emerge from recession, oil prices will find a range of $90-140 as their new home.
Don't go setting fire to your Nissan Leaf EV just yet!!
Oh wait, that's just a nice golf cart
Alberta had a good 5-10 years of prosperity ahead, probably longer.
Gotta wait for it.
