Most of the renewables are down about 50% from their all time highs three years ago during the renewable mania period. Look at Northland, now $27 was over $50 three years ago. Same for Innergex. Boralex also down. Opportunistic? Perhaps but probably a fair price. RNW wouldn't have reached $20 for quite a few years. It's also dependent on TA for development of new projects which are dropped down to RNW after completion. If the deal doesn't go through, your investment in RNW will be dead money.
I used to own both RNW and TA. I sold all my RNW shortly after the Kent Hills turbine failure. With the proceeds I added to TA which I still have. Yes the TA dividend is miniscule but it has increased the dividend every year for the last few years and the payout ratio is less than 20%. RNW hasn't increased the distribution in probably over ten years and the payout ratio is over 100%. My guess is TA will accelerate dividend growth post merger so that its payout is closer to its peers.
As always you are entitled to your opinion , but no one, has ever or will ever be able to preditict with any certainity what the future price of an equity will be.
